CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CREATIVE DANCE/MOVEMENT

Our playful introduction class to dance and movement. We focus on basic movement skills, the importance of warm-ups and stretches, musicality, improvisation, and basic dance terminology and technique.

HIP-HOP

Through energetic choreography and rhythmic movements, students explore the foundations and techniques of hip hop. They learn to embody the style, precision, and attitude that define this popular genre, while dancing to age-appropriate music, as well as learning the history of how New York City kids revolutionized the dance and music world in The Bronx in the 1970’s.

POP DANCE!

Pop dance and choreography introduction class. Following the basis from our creative dance classes, students will focus more on up beat choreography, developing memorization skills, an ear for rhythm, group work, stage presence, and confidence.

YOGA/MINDFULNESS

Students will learn traditional yoga poses in a non-traditional way! This class includes games, songs, stories, imaginative play, and activities that engage children and give them the tools to feel calmer, happier, and more peaceful inside!

LITTLE THESPIANS (Creative Theatre)

Our creative introduction to the world of theatre and acting! Students will learn about emotions, storytelling, basic character creation, and team work. Drama focused warm ups, games, tongue twisters, and challenges will help our students develop their self esteem, confidence, discipline, and cooperative nature.

THEATRE ARTS - PERFORMANCE

A more structured continuation of our creative theatre classes. Students will practice character development, emotional expression, authentic delivery, along with applying the basics of storytelling and the introduction of technical stage craft.

THEATRE ARTS - TECH & ART

Not everyone has to be an actor. No play or musical would be ready without the designers and crew! Students will be introduce to the many different roles of the creative and tech team, and will experience designing and making props, sets, and costumes for the Performance class.

MUSICAL THEATRE

A captivating introduction to the world of Broadway musicals, combining three essential elements: dance, music, and drama.

INTRO TO IMPROV

From Brooklyn to UCB! Through theatre and creative games, this class uses principles of improvisation like agreement, listening, and emotions to teach kids basic life skills, as well as introducing them to a different aspect of theatre performance.

TINY TALES (Storytelling)

Our intro to storytelling class! Depending on our Teaching Artist’s focus and area of expertise, this class can look like many different things. We will cover the basic structures of storytelling, characters, problem solving, terminology, as well as visiting some of the most beloved stories and picture books.

SING A SONG! (Intro to Music)

Singing focused music introduction class. Students will start learning the importance of breath control, rhythm, basic music notation, as well as creating their own songs and chants.

SONGWRITING

Watch out, Olivia Rodrigo and Bad Bunny! A new wave of singer-songwriters is ready to take your place. Students will focus on song structure, lyrics, melody, and performance skills, with an introduction to basic music theory and chord progressions.

WORLD TRAVELER

Kids call this our “passport class”! We use our imagination to travel around the world, learning about the traditional music, dances, stories, native animals, foods, and culture of different places near and far.

ART MAKING

Explore color, shape, line, texture, and composition in a simple and fun way. Classes include directed as well as open-ended art activities, plus an introduction to art history and the artists who broke barriers.
